DESCRIPTION: Old silver hair ring from Morocco. These were traditionally braided into the hair or attached to a headdress. They were filled with wool impregnated with perfume or with other aromatic substances.
There is no doubt that this ring shows signs of age, but we find it charming in that it was obviously well loved and worn extensively.
Within the main structure of the old silver bead, the reddish dark brown substance is most probably aged old aromatic substances mixed with wax. This substance is now completely hardened and an integral part of the bead. It does not have any of its old scent left.
These traditional hair rings can easily be worn as a finger ring or as a unique pendant on a silver chain or leather cord.
AGE: First half of 20th century; ca 1930s/40s.
MATERIAL: The bead is made of high grade silver (acid tested for 800+ silver content). The ring has a lower silver content, most likely only around 400/500 silver.
